SAVING PRIVATE RYAN
We could hear the heavy rumble of tanks getting nearer and nearer, the air was hot and sticky, we had no where to go, we knew that this would be our last stand.
I was part of Bravo Platoon who had been ordered to find and escort Private Ryan to safety. Our Platoon had already suffered a number of casualties and our able bodied only amounted to 16 combatants. We thought that once we had passed through this village we would come across our own advancing front line but we got as far as the bridge and realised we were caught from both sides. We didn’t have time to blow the bridge behind us and could only wait for the ever advancing onslaught. We had already tried to radio for air support but didn’t know if this would arrive in time.
Suddenly all hell broke loose, they started to throw everything at us.
